A woman is...

Image
A woman is an amazing creation. Women are the backbones of society; the glues that hold the pieces in place even when things are spiralling out of control and all hope seems to be lost.  We are life's spices. A woman is a mother, the vessel through which brings forth life. She is the definition of grace as she undergoes metamorphosis wearing her stripes like a badge of honour and her bundle of joy as her prized possession. She is a homemaker; a cook, a full-time doctor, a nurse, a counsellor, a shoulder to cry on and a haven. She is selfless constantly choosing to put her family first. She is a woman. A woman is a warrior. She is the daughter of centuries of warrior Queens whose blood flow through her challenging and conquering everything that life throws at her feet.  She is the epitome of happiness and love, God's gift to man and so much more. She is the Proverbs 31 woman. Woman; womb-man. She is a garden, of rainbows, sunshine and butterflie...

Dear me...

As children growing up, we are always encouraged by the elders around us to forgive and forget. You must always forgive others when they've done you wrong they say,  but no one ever says how difficult it is and that in your attempts to let go you should also forgive yourself. Through my experiences, I've learnt that saying I forgive you is not as easy as it sounds. It takes strength and courage to acknowledge that yes I was wronged and yes it hurts but if I am to grow and develop I choose to forgive you. What does it even mean to forgive? To me, it means to let go and as simple as it sounds it is one of the most difficult things to do. No one loves to feel pain, no one wants to be hurt, it's never an option on our bucket list.  People make mistakes, we are humans. Some people choose to cause harm and no being human does not make it right but holding on to the pain and acting out of a place of hurt helps no one especially not you. As we progress along life's path we ...

Battling Depression

As a young girl growing up it was always a habit of mine to plan everything down to the smallest detail possible. As naive as it sounds that was me. I planned that when I became an adult I would have everything together and it would be just like I imagined. Well, let me just say that little Tamara was so wrong. It felt as if not long after becoming an "adult" life just began throwing everything at me and quite frankly I was not prepared. Writing is something that I hold dear to my heart and I find so much joy and peace of mind from it. When everything started happening all at once, I felt so overwhelmed and I didn't even recognize myself at times. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I'm a bubbly soul and that has always been me. When I was around people I seemed to have it all together or at least that's what I thought, but even my friends and family could've sensed the shift. Everything felt like a challenge and as time went it got worse on the inside. I w...

The Importance of surrounding yourself with the right people.

I believe that life is a concept of growth and to grow there are a few integral factors that must come into play. In order for a plant to grow it needs adequate amounts of sunlight, carbon dioxide, water and some key minerals. Similarly, as humans, while traversing life's road there are elements that contribute towards a successful journey. Everyone is constantly fighting their own battles and inner turmoil even if they may seem to have it all together. Some may share a smile or a laugh with you but behind their exterior lies deceit and bad intentions. Therefore, my friends, it is pertinent to surround yourself with the right people.   Now you may wonder, well how will I know who the right people or persons are? Don't fight it, when you are with them you will know. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who are driven and can be the support system and source of motivation that we often need in order to grow. People who can positively contribute towards you accomplis...

Living a life of purpose

I recently had a delightful conversation with an elderly woman and I couldn't help but notice as she recounted the events of the past years how bright-eyed and full they were. Just listening to her made me smile because she was given the gift of life and she lived. I want to live. I want to live a life of substance, one of purpose and happiness. We sometimes get so caught up with everything that is going on around us that we forget the fact that our life is a gift one whereby we're unaware of when or even how it can be taken away, and sometimes it can be all within a flash. This is something that I have to constantly remind myself of because sometimes I overthink even the smallest things.   I want to travel the world; experience various cultures, sceneries, and lifestyles. I want to experience all of the best that life has to offer; count stars, go on road trips and unplanned adventures, sit on the beach in silence with my favourite people just enjoying God's creation ...

Self Love

Let's take a moment to talk about Self love. In our ever so modern and fast-paced world, society paints an image as to how we should live and look. You should be slim, but not too skinny. You must be tall and never short. You should have well-defined cheekbones and skin that is as flawless as can be. Us humans always strive for perfection, but does a perfect person exist? My friend, the answer to that is no. Humans are phenomenal, complex beings despite their colour, shape, size and sexual orientation. So society this is us taking a stand to say no thank you to your ridiculous body standards.  I believe that love for oneself is one of the greatest types of love that exist upon the face of this Earth. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made from greatness to be great. Imagine a world where we all looked the same, that would be a boring world.  Embrace your unique and amazing personality. Embrace the skin you were blessed with. Love each and every part of you even i...

Cheers to 2018!

2017 was a bittersweet year; full of highs and lows. Let's focus on the great things that happened this year and use the losses as stepping stones; lessons to learn from in the new year.   Writing has always been a passion of mine and this year I took the step to create this blog. A space where I can share my views, be a source of motivation and inspiration to my readers worldwide but most of all, a platform where I can be myself and have fun doing what I love.   I was blessed to have the opportunity to travel abroad with my friends. It was an amazing experience! I love you Royalz. I also had the opportunity to explore more of my country; this I intend to do more of in the new year.  This year brought the opportunity to connect with many like-minded, driven individuals like myself. I was fortunate enough to be in a position whereby I can actively give back to my community. This experience has been such a blessing.   I rekindled a friendship that is blooming...

What being "Black" means to me.

Black is beauty... Black is powerful... Black is strength beyond measure... Black is you and I.    Even as we live in a "modern" world the topic of race is still a touchy issue. From a tender age, we learn that the world we live in isn't as we would like it to be. We learn the skill of inferiority and use it as our roadmap to life. Society has and continues to snatch and taint our views of what we are and what we should be as a people. Please make no mistake for I’m not bashing any other racial group. However,  I refuse to be a social casualty and with pride, I'll take a leap out of the box.  This is what being black means to me...  Black reminds me that I have the ability to overcome the challenges that life throws at my feet. It reminds me that I can be all that I was made to be even though I might have to work twice as hard. It reminds me of the fighter spirit that the creator has placed within me, that fuels through this blood of mine.   Oh, be...

The Power of "I Am"

Things aren't always perfect. As a matter of fact, they never are. We tend to make plans but sometimes life has other things in store and it's hard to see the light of day when you're surrounded by darkness. Faith is said to be the belief in things that are to come; hoping, trusting that everything will work out for the best.    It can be difficult to make your goals a reality when everyone says that you can't or that your idea isn't worth it. It can be even more challenging when you live in a society where it is a norm to fall within a few structured lines.    I'm not always at my best but I am grateful for those moments of happiness and to those persons who are sources of joy within my life.    I recently had the opportunity to watch an interview of Motivational Speaker Lisa Nichols where she spoke of the Power of I Am. She recounted her experience of being in an abusive relationship and her diagnosis of being Clinically Depressed. Upon her dia...

"Plant dreams, pull weeds and grow a happy life."

We all have that ultimate dream or goal to achieve in life. Some of them may even be greater than others. Nevertheless, we strive every day; sunrise to sunset so that one day these dreams can be fulfilled.   For me, one of my dreams is to become a published and successful writer.  To some persons, this may seem unrealistic and absurd. Yes, my friend, some persons will aim to deflate and diminish your dreams. It's yours for a reason, so don't let them! It is pertinent to pluck out weeds from our garden of dreams. Their role is to strip you of everything. It may be persons you deem as "friends", family members and even those who may despise you because of your grind.    I like to think of life as a great play, where every human is a member of the cast; each with their respective roles which together fuses producing a masterpiece.   In our quest for greatness, challenges will come, however, it is our duty to remind ourselves of the dreams we hold dearest ...
